Description: In honor of Earth Day (April 22), our focus will be on environmental impacts on human and wildlife health and the economy. This is the first of a series on the environment. This month’s focus is on water quality and water and food supply impacts.
Our keynote speaker is Captain Karl R. Deigert, Chair of the grassroots citizens’ ballot initiative “Florida’s Right to Clean and Healthy Waters” (FloridaRightToCleanWater.org) and Director, Florida Rights of Nature Network.. Capt. Deigert, hails from Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Pharmacy School in 1985, he relocated to Islamorada, FL. to enjoy his life goals of fishing and diving in paradise. However, in 2016, he recognized severely compromised water quality across the state and founded the nonprofit Lee County Rights of Nature. Working with others in 2020, the Florida Rights of Nature Network was established statewide This led to the formation of the fully grassroots citizens’ ballot initiative “Florida’s Right to Clean and Healthy Waters” (FloridaRightToCleanWater.org).
Information on Earth Day activities as well as on the Environmental Caucus of the Florida Democratic Party will be provided. In addition, we will cover the Biden administration’s support of Veterans Health with the signing of the PACT act, a law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.
Dine Out After the Meeting
After the meeting, please join us for a late lunch. It’s always fun and a great way to meet members you do not know. Please RSVP when you check in for the meeting so we have an estimated count of those who plan to dine out after the meeting.
